Skool to Whop: How to Move Your Community and Keep Your Members
MoveToWhop is independent and not affiliated with Whop, Inc. or any platform we cover. We may earn a referral commission from Whop when you create a Whop through our links. It never costs you anything, and it's how we keep migrations free. How we make money
Quick answer
Skool has no API and no billing export, so a move to Whop runs on your member CSV, which includes emails for paid groups. You rebuild Classroom in Whop Courses, recreate the community in Forums and Chat, and invite paying members to re-subscribe with a free trial that lines up with their next Skool charge, so nobody pays twice. A 30-day trial covers any monthly member. Keep Skool active until your last payout lands.
What moves
Skool to Whop at a glance
This is what the free migration tool does for Skool today. Rows marked Guided or From your export need some input from you: a confirmation in the wizard or the file Skool gives you.
Products & pricing
MovesYou confirm your products and prices in the wizard (prefilled where we can). We create matching Whop products and pricing plans through Whop's official API.
Courses
MovesPaste or import your course outline and we create the chapters and lessons in Whop Courses. Video files don't transfer automatically: re-upload them in Whop or embed them from YouTube or Loom.
Members
From exportUpload the member export from Skool. We clean it and set up a hidden "Existing members" option on Whop: free claim links for one-time buyers, and for subscribers, a plan with a free trial that lines up their first Whop charge with their next Skool renewal. Whop's API can't add members directly, so members claim access from the link you send.
Community
MovesWe create Whop Forums and Chat with a pinned welcome post. Old posts and comments don't move, because Whop's API would post them as you, dated today.
Paying subscribers
Re-subscribeSkool is the merchant of record and has no public API or billing export, so paying members re-subscribe on Whop. Skool's member export has no billing dates, so we give paying members a free first billing cycle on Whop so nobody pays twice.
- Guided:
- you confirm or paste it in the wizard, and we create it on Whop.
- From your export:
- imported from the export file Skool gives you.
Before you start

What moves from Skool to Whop
Your member list, your prices and your course outline come across with help from our wizard. Card details, active subscriptions, posts, points and course progress stay behind, because Skool has no public API and doesn't export billing data. The What moves table on this page sums up each part; here's what it means for a Skool group.
Members
Skool's Members tab has an Export button that downloads a CSV. Skool says the file includes email addresses in paid groups (since June 2024) along with your membership-question answers. Exports from free groups may not include emails.
Whop's API can't add members directly, so every member claims access through a link you send them. Run the file through our member CSV converter to clean it into a Whop-ready list, then sort it into paying members, free members and one-time buyers. The Skool member export guide lists the columns you can expect.
Products and prices
Skool groups can be free, subscription (monthly or annual, with an optional 7-day trial), freemium, tiered or one-time, and every price is in USD. In the wizard you confirm each tier, and we create a Whop product and a matching plan for each price through Whop's official API. A freemium group can become a free plan and a paid plan on the same product. You can keep pricing in USD or switch currencies on Whop.
Classroom courses
Skool has no course export; course keys only copy a course into another Skool group. You paste your Classroom outline (course titles, page names, page text and video links) into the wizard, and we create the Whop Courses structure: chapters, lessons, text and YouTube or Loom embeds.
Video files don't transfer automatically. Videos you uploaded to Skool need your original files uploaded to Whop. YouTube and Loom links become embeds. Vimeo and Wistia links need a re-upload in Whop or a move to YouTube or Loom first.
Two Skool habits need a new home. Level-locked courses have no direct equivalent on Whop, so use drip timing (lessons open a set number of days after a member starts) or put advanced material in a higher tier. Course progress doesn't move, so members start each course fresh.
Community, events and gamification
The wizard creates Whop Forums and Chat with a pinned welcome post. Old posts and comments don't move, because Whop's API publishes posts as you, dated today. Each Skool category can become its own forum or chat channel, and calendar events need to be recreated in Whop's Events app by hand.
Points and levels reset. Whop's native apps have no points system as of October 2026, so plan how you'll recognize your most active members, such as a public thank-you post or a free month.
Payments
Skool is the merchant of record and has no public API or billing export, so paying members re-subscribe on Whop. Whop's own Migrations tool can't help here, because it only moves subscriptions from a Stripe account you own. We set up a free trial that lines up with their next Skool charge, so nobody pays twice.
How the switch works, step by step
The switch takes nine steps, and you keep Skool running until the last one.
- Export your members. In your group, open the Members tab and click Export. Keep the original CSV somewhere safe.
- Clean the list. Upload it to the CSV converter for a de-duplicated, Whop-ready file, and sort paying, free and one-time members.
- Connect Whop and set up products. Open the free Move to Whop wizard, connect with Whop's official "Sign in with Whop" (we never ask for your Skool password), and confirm each tier and price.
- Rebuild Classroom. Paste your course outline, then upload videos or keep YouTube and Loom embeds.
- Set up the community. The wizard creates Forums, Chat and a welcome post. Add Events and any extra channels by hand.
- Create member links. Paying members get a hidden "Existing members" plan with a free trial. Free members and one-time buyers get a free claim link.
- Announce and invite. Pin a post in Skool and email paying members their link (template below).
- End each member's Skool billing as they join. In Skool, open the Members tab, click MEMBERSHIP SETTINGS next to the member and choose Cancel subscription.
- Close Skool last. After your grace period ends and your final Skool payout lands, cancel your Skool plan.
How to keep members and avoid double billing
Each paying member should finish the Skool period they've already paid for, then pay Whop from their next renewal on. Done that way, nobody pays twice and nobody loses access in between.
Line up the Whop trial with the Skool renewal
Paying members join the hidden plan at their current price, with a free trial so their first Whop charge lands when Skool would have charged them next. Skool's export doesn't include billing dates, so pick one of two approaches:
- One trial for everyone. A 30-day trial covers whatever is left of any monthly member's current period. Some members get a few free days, and in return nobody needs individual dates.
- Trials by renewal week. In Skool, MEMBERSHIP SETTINGS has a Payments tab that shows every payment a member has made. Use it to find each member's renewal day, group members by week, and give each group a trial that ends on its renewal date.
When a member joins Whop, click Cancel subscription for them in Skool. Skool says this "will cancel their membership at the end of their billing cycle," and the member is removed after their billing date. Avoid Remove from group for paying members: it cancels the subscription and removes them straight away.
Members can cancel on their own, too: profile picture, Settings, the Communities tab, SETTINGS next to your group, then Manage membership. Skool advises doing it at least 24 hours before rebilling. Doing it for them is more reliable.
Annual members, free members and one-time buyers
Annual members may have months left on Skool. Look up each one's renewal date in the Payments tab and give them a trial that reaches it. If you only have a handful, handle them one by one.
Free members and people who bought a one-time offer get a free claim link to a hidden free plan. Free-group exports may lack emails, so pin a post in Skool with the link and a deadline.
Set a grace period you can explain in one sentence
Give members a fixed window, for example 30 days, with a firm closing date. During that window, post reminders in Skool and email anyone who hasn't joined. After it ends, keep your Skool plan until two things are true: the last member's paid Skool period has ended, and your final payout has arrived. Skool doesn't pay out archived groups.
When you cancel, the group archives at the end of your Skool billing cycle. Skool says everything is saved as it is, and you can reactivate later if you need something.

Skool vs Whop fees at your revenue
On a $49 monthly membership, moving from Skool Hobby to Whop saves about $8,268 a year at $10,000 a month in sales. From Skool Pro, the saving at the same revenue is about $828 a year, and at $50,000 a month Whop costs about $612 a year more.
Prices as of October 2026. US cards, $49/month membership, plans billed monthly. Sources at the end of this page.
| Monthly sales | Skool Hobby fees | Skool Pro fees | Whop fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| $1,000 | $115 | $134 | $38 |
| $10,000 | $1,070 | $450 | $381 |
| $50,000 | $5,315 | $1,855 | $1,906 |
Fees = plan price + percentage of sales + 30¢ per charge, with charges = sales ÷ $49. Skool Hobby is $9 + 10%, Skool Pro is $99 + 2.9% (3.9% on charges above $900), and Whop is $0 + 2.7% + 0.5% billing on recurring charges. Non-US cards cost 1.5% more on Whop and nothing extra on Skool, which narrows the gap if many members are abroad. Our breakdown of Skool's Hobby and Pro fees covers the details, and the Skool vs Whop fee calculator runs your own numbers.
What you'll rebuild by hand
Most of the manual work is in course videos and the parts of Skool that have no Whop equivalent. Effort here is relative, not timed.
| What | Effort | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Course videos hosted on Skool | High | Upload your originals and name the files after the lesson titles so they're easy to match. |
| Course videos on YouTube or Loom | Low | They come across as embeds when you paste the outline. |
| Calendar and recurring calls | Low | Recreate them in Whop Events and post the new link in Skool before you close it. |
| Level-locked courses | Medium | Use drip timing or move advanced courses into a higher tier. |
| Posts worth keeping | Medium | Copy your best posts into a pinned forum post; old comments can't move. |
| Member affiliates (Pro) | Low | Set an affiliate rate on Whop and send top affiliates their new links. |
| Zapier automations (Pro) | Medium | Whop has Zapier, webhooks and an API, so rebuild each automation there. |
| Your group's About page | Low | Rewrite it as your Whop store page. |
Should you switch from Skool to Whop?
Switch if Skool's fees or payment limits cost you more than a re-subscribe campaign will. Stay if Skool's engagement features or tax handling are doing real work for you.
Switching makes sense if you:
- pay Hobby's 10% on every sale, since Whop costs less at any revenue;
- are on Pro with less than about $33,000 a month in sales;
- want to sell one-time products, take PayPal, or price in currencies other than USD;
- want payouts faster than once a week.
Stay on Skool if:
- points, levels and leaderboards are what keep members posting;
- most members are in the EU and you don't want to handle VAT, which Skool does as merchant of record;
- you're on Pro above about $33,000 a month with mostly US cards;
- Discovery and Growth Boost keep sending you paying members;
- your margins can't absorb losing members during a re-subscribe campaign, because every member has to enter a card again and some won't.
Still deciding? Our look at how Whop and Skool compare on features and fees weighs each one, and our list of Skool alternatives covers Circle, Mighty Networks and others.
After the move: launch checklist
Before you announce the closing date, run through this list:
- Buy your Existing members plan with a real card and confirm the trial end date. Then claim your free link from a second account.
- Check that courses, forums and chat show up for every plan that should see them.
- Complete Whop's identity verification and add a payout method before the first trials end.
- If any of your prices is above $2,500, apply for higher checkout limits, since new Whop accounts are capped at $2,500 per payment until approved.
- Update the links in your bio, YouTube descriptions, email signature and Skool About page.
- Compare your Skool paying-member count with your Whop memberships each week, and contact stragglers before their next Skool billing date.
- Keep Skool active until your last payout lands, then cancel the plan. Deleting the group is optional, and Skool only allows it once the group is archived and you're the only member left.
Whop's fee schedule covers payout methods and their costs before you pick one.
Frequently asked questions
Can Skool transfer my members' subscriptions to Whop?
No. Skool is the merchant of record and processes every payment on its own merchant account, and it offers no public API or billing export. No tool can move Skool subscriptions or saved cards, including Whop's own Migrations feature, which only supports Stripe. Each paying member joins a Whop plan and enters a card, with a free trial so nobody pays twice.
Will my members be charged twice during the switch?
Not if you do two things. Give paying members a Whop plan whose free trial runs until their next Skool billing date, and click Cancel subscription for each member in Skool once they've joined. Skool says that option ends the membership at the end of the billing cycle, so their last Skool charge covers the gap and the first Whop charge comes after.
Do I need Skool Pro to move to Whop?
Probably not. Skool's help articles on the Members tab export don't mention a plan requirement. Pro matters in two cases: Skool's Zapier plugin, which can send new paid members to another tool while you run both platforms, is Pro only, and so is transferring group ownership if you'd rather hand the group to someone else.
What happens to my Skool group after I cancel my plan?
It archives at the end of your billing cycle. Skool says everything is saved as it is and you can reactivate later. Archived groups don't trigger payouts, so cancel only after your final payout lands. To delete the group completely, it must be archived and you must be the only member left, which means every member has to leave first.
Can I transfer my Skool group to someone else instead of moving?
Yes, on Pro only. You add the new owner as a member, make them an admin, then promote them to owner in Membership settings. Skool archives the group at the transfer and the new owner adds their payment details to reactivate it. Skool suggests doing it a day before your billing date, because the charges involved aren't refundable.
Can I move my Skool course videos to Whop?
Not automatically. Skool has no course export or bulk video download, so upload your original video files to Whop's Courses app. Videos already on YouTube or Loom carry over as embeds when you paste your outline into our wizard. Vimeo and Wistia links need a re-upload to Whop or a switch to YouTube or Loom.
What should I do with free members?
Send them a free claim link to a hidden free plan on Whop. Skool only promises emails in exports from paid groups, so free members may arrive without an email address. For those, pin a post in your Skool group with the claim link and a deadline, and keep the group open until the deadline passes.
