Teachable plans and prices in October 2026

Teachable's pricing page shows three self-serve plans, Starter, Builder and Growth, plus a Custom plan quoted by sales. A fourth self-serve plan, Advanced, no longer appears on the page but is still listed in Teachable's help center. Yearly billing takes about 22% off, every plan starts with a 7-day free trial and a 30-day guarantee, and there's no free plan.

Memberships, bundles and community don't count toward the product limits, and students who buy through Teachable's checkout are unlimited on every plan. Two quick rules of thumb follow from the prices. Growth costs exactly $100 a month more than Builder at any sales level ($70 billed yearly), because the fees are the same, so it only pays off if you need its certificates, admins, API or product allowance. And Starter's 7.5% fee makes it more expensive than Builder once you sell more than about $667 a month, or about $533 a month on yearly billing.

Every Teachable fee in one table

On top of the plan, Teachable Payments charges card processing plus a bundle fee. The default Standard bundle adds 0.7% to renewals and 0.5% to taxed sales, and the optional Global bundle replaces both with 2.8% on every sale. These are the rates for a US school.

What changed in 2025 and 2026

Teachable replaced its plans in 2025, then spent 2026 changing product limits, payments and student fees. Each entry below has a dated source.

  • May 5, 2025: An archived pricing page shows Basic at $59 a month ($39 billed yearly) plus a 5% transaction fee, Pro at $159 ($119) and Pro+ at $249 ($199). Basic allowed 5 published products of each type, Pro 50 and Pro+ 200.
  • May 28, 2025: Teachable announced Starter, Builder, Growth and Advanced. New schools got them from the week of June 2, existing schools were moved between mid-June and July 15, 2025, and the new prices applied from the first renewal on or after June 29, 2025. Basic became Builder ($59 to $89), Pro became Growth ($159 to $189) and Pro+ became Advanced ($249 to $399), and Starter arrived at $39 with a 7.5% fee.
  • June 17, 2025: The archived pricing page caps published products at 1 on Starter, 5 on Builder, 25 on Growth and 100 on Advanced.
  • November 6, 2025: According to a Teachable email posted on r/elearning, Teachable stopped returning its transaction fees on refunded sales and began calculating Starter's fee on the price before processing fees.
  • January 23, 2026: The archived pricing page offers new subscribers 3 months at $13 (Starter), $29 (Builder), $63 (Growth) or $133 (Advanced) a month, then the standard price.
  • April 1, 2026: The archived pricing page raises product limits to 5, 10 and 50 on Starter, Builder and Growth, with Advanced at 100.
  • May 13, 2026: Teachable's usage-fee article sets per-plan student limits, with fees at renewal for schools that go over.
  • August 2026: Teachable's help center, updated August 10, puts Community in maintenance mode, and the August 28 archive shows the Advanced plan card replaced by Custom.
  • September 3, 2026: A new usage-fee policy took effect for new schools, with unlimited students who buy through Teachable's checkout, 100 others free, then $0.50 a month each. Older schools move to it at their first renewal on or after April 30, 2027.
  • Third quarter of 2026: Teachable moved schools from teachable:pay to Teachable Payments in waves. The 10% reserve went away and checkout moved to Stripe, while BackOffice was folded into the Standard and Global bundles and the Monthly Payment Gateway closed to new schools. Gifting, the student referral program and post-purchase upsells were removed.

Whether the 2025 change raised your bill depended on your sales. A Basic school paid $59 plus 5% of sales; on Builder it pays $89 and no transaction fee, so it came out ahead above $600 a month in sales and behind below that. Pro and Pro+ schools paid $30 and $150 more a month for the renamed tier, and the old limits counted products of each type, where the new ones count products in total.

What the same business pays on Teachable and on Whop

Whop has no plan fee, so it costs less than every Teachable plan at the three levels below. The gap is widest on Starter, where the 7.5% fee grows with every sale.

Prices as of October 2026. Sources at the end of this page.

Monthly revenue ($49 members)Starter per yearBuilder per yearGrowth per yearWhop per year
$1,000 (about 20 charges)$1,873 ($1,753 billed yearly)$1,573 ($1,333)$2,773 ($2,173)$457
$10,000 (about 204 charges)$14,523 ($14,403)$6,123 ($5,883)$7,323 ($6,723)$4,575
$50,000 (about 1,020 charges)$70,741 ($70,621)$26,341 ($26,101)$27,541 ($26,941)$22,873

Yearly cost = 12 × (plan price + revenue × fee rate + charges × $0.30), with charges = revenue ÷ $49. Teachable's fee rate is 3.6% on Builder and Growth (2.9% card plus 0.7% on renewals) and 11.1% on Starter, which adds its 7.5% fee. Whop charges 2.7% + 30¢ per card sale plus 0.5% billing on recurring charges, so 3.2%. We assume US cards, Teachable Payments' Standard bundle, and no usage fees, add-ons, payout fees or currency conversion. Teachable's 0.5% on taxed sales and Whop's $0.07 Radar fee per transaction are left out; the Radar fee adds about $171 a year at $10,000 a month.

Try your own price and volume in the fee calculator, see Whop's fees line by line, or read the Whop vs Teachable comparison, which covers tax handling, payouts and course tools as well as cost.

Monthly or yearly billing?

Yearly billing saves $120 a year on Starter, $240 on Builder and $600 on Growth. It makes sense if you're confident you'll keep the school for a year.

Teachable's pricing page says plans renew automatically until cancelled and that a cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle, so a yearly plan runs to its end date. Upgrades apply straight away with a prorated credit, while downgrades wait for your next renewal, and Teachable unpublishes your newest products automatically if you're over the lower plan's limit. Check your student counts too. In July 2025, one creator said they were charged $189 again after downgrading to Builder and put it down to a 1,000-student limit; today the same limit triggers usage fees at renewal.

Costs people miss

The plan and card rate aren't the whole bill. These are the charges that most often surprise Teachable schools, based on Teachable's own price list and help center.

Usage fees depend on when your school was created. Schools created before September 3, 2026 stay on per-plan limits until their first renewal on or after April 30, 2027:

PlanActive students includedEach extra active studentImported students includedEach extra imported student
Starter100$0.10/mo5$1.50/mo
Builder1,000$0.10/mo50$1.00/mo
Growth5,000$0.05/mo1,000$0.75/mo
Advanced10,000$0.05/mo2,000$0.50/mo

Active students are those enrolled in at least one product, and imported students are those added outside Teachable's checkout in the last 12 months. A Builder school with 1,300 active students and 80 recent imports would owe $60 a month in usage fees, charged at renewal. Under the newer policy, a school that imports 600 students from another platform would be billed (600 − 100) × $0.50 = $250 a month, because only students who buy through Teachable's checkout are free.

Other costs worth pricing in:

  • The Global bundle's 2.8% on every sale, if you want buy now, pay later or local payment methods.
  • Teachable's 2% integration fee if your US school connects its own Stripe, on top of Stripe's fees.
  • $15 per dispute, and no fees returned on refunds.
  • Starter doesn't include a custom domain or the affiliate program; both start on Builder at $89 a month.

When Teachable's price makes sense

Builder and Growth are reasonable value if you sell courses to buyers in many countries and want sales tax and VAT collected and remitted for you, which Teachable Payments does in more than 45 markets. Starter only makes sense while you sell less than about $667 a month on monthly billing.

Teachable is harder to justify if you mainly sell memberships, where the 0.7% renewal surcharge applies to every charge, or if you're building a community, since Teachable's help center says Community is in maintenance mode with no new features or bug fixes. Our Teachable alternatives roundup compares Whop, Thinkific, Kajabi and others, and our Kajabi pricing breakdown covers the most expensive of them. When you're ready to leave, the Teachable to Whop migration plan explains what transfers and how to avoid charging students twice.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Teachable cost per month?

Teachable's public plans cost $39 (Starter), $89 (Builder) and $189 (Growth) a month billed monthly, or $29, $69 and $139 a month billed yearly, as of October 2026. The Advanced plan, $399 a month or $309 billed yearly, is still self-serve according to Teachable's help center, and Custom is priced by quote. Card processing comes on top, from 2.9% + 30¢ per US sale.

Does Teachable charge transaction fees?

Only on Starter, which takes 7.5% of every sale. Builder, Growth and Advanced pay 0% to Teachable when you use Teachable Payments, though processing still applies: 2.9% + 30¢ per US card sale, 0.7% more on renewals and 0.5% on taxed sales. US schools that connect their own Stripe through the Custom Payment Gateway pay Teachable a 2% integration fee instead.

Does Teachable have a free plan?

No. Teachable's help center says it no longer offers a free plan, so a school goes offline if you cancel and stays offline until you buy a paid plan again. New schools get a 7-day free trial and a 30-day guarantee. The site's menu also advertises 3 months for the price of 1; the pricing page doesn't show the terms, so check the price at checkout.

Did Teachable raise its prices?

Yes, in 2025. An archived May 2025 pricing page shows Basic at $59, Pro at $159 and Pro+ at $249 a month. Teachable then replaced them with Builder at $89, Growth at $189 and Advanced at $399, moving existing schools between mid-June and mid-July 2025, and added Starter at $39 with a 7.5% fee. Builder dropped the 5% fee that Basic charged.

What are Teachable's usage fees?

Charges for students who didn't buy through Teachable's checkout, plus video storage. Schools created since September 3, 2026 get 100 such students free, then pay $0.50 a month each, and $15 a month per terabyte of video beyond 1,000 GB. Older schools have per-plan limits, such as 1,000 active and 50 imported students on Builder, until their first renewal on or after April 30, 2027.

Is Teachable cheaper if you pay yearly?

Yes, by about 22%. Yearly billing saves $120 a year on Starter, $240 on Builder and $600 on Growth, and an archived January 2026 pricing page showed $1,080 saved on Advanced. Plans renew automatically until you cancel, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle you've paid for, so yearly billing suits schools that expect to stay at least 12 months.

Does Teachable refund its fees when a student gets a refund?

No. Teachable's help center says processing fees from the original sale still apply after a refund, and according to a Teachable email posted on r/elearning, it stopped returning its own transaction fees on refunded sales from November 6, 2025. Disputes cost $15 each. Refunds are capped at $10,000 a day and are blocked while your Teachable Payments balance is negative.
