Move from Teachable to Whop: What Transfers and How to Switch
MoveToWhop is independent and not affiliated with Whop, Inc. or any platform we cover. We may earn a referral commission from Whop when you create a Whop through our links. It never costs you anything, and it's how we keep migrations free. How we make money
Quick answer
A Teachable to Whop move is a rebuild plus a re-subscribe. Teachable has no course export, and Teachable Payments keeps your students' cards, so Whop's Stripe migration has nothing to copy. Export students (the emailed CSV link lasts 24 minutes) and transactions, rebuild courses in Whop Courses from your outline, re-upload videos, then invite subscribers to a Whop plan whose free trial ends on their next Teachable renewal.
What moves
Teachable to Whop at a glance
This is what the free migration tool does for Teachable today. Rows marked Guided or From your export need some input from you: a confirmation in the wizard or the file Teachable gives you.
Products & pricing
MovesYou confirm your products and prices in the wizard (prefilled where we can). We create matching Whop products and pricing plans through Whop's official API.
Courses
MovesPaste or import your course outline and we create the chapters and lessons in Whop Courses. Video files don't transfer automatically: re-upload them in Whop or embed them from YouTube or Loom.
Members
From exportUpload the member export from Teachable. We clean it and set up a hidden "Existing members" option on Whop: free claim links for one-time buyers, and for subscribers, a plan with a free trial that lines up their first Whop charge with their next Teachable renewal. Whop's API can't add members directly, so members claim access from the link you send.
Community
N/ATeachable doesn't have this, so there's nothing to move.
Paying subscribers
Re-subscribeTeachable Payments holds the card data, and even with a custom gateway Teachable runs the billing schedule, so Whop's Stripe migration has nothing to move. Members re-subscribe on Whop.

Why Teachable creators are moving in 2026
Teachable has changed what schools pay several times since mid-2025, and the 2026 changes land on students, payments and community. Each change below is dated from Teachable's own pages.
- May 28, 2025: Teachable announced its current plans. New schools got them from the week of June 2, 2025, and existing schools were moved between June 15 and July 15, 2025. Today Starter costs $39 a month with a 7.5% transaction fee, Builder $89 and Growth $189, or $29, $69 and $139 a month billed annually.
- May 13, 2026: Teachable's usage-fee article describes per-student fees at renewal for schools over their plan's limits. Builder includes 1,000 active and 50 imported students, then charges $0.10 a month per extra active student and $1.00 per extra imported student.
- August 10, 2026: Teachable put Community in maintenance mode. Existing communities keep working, but Teachable isn't adding features or fixing reported bugs, and new schools can't create one.
- September 3, 2026: A new usage-fee policy took effect for schools created from that date. Students who buy through Teachable's checkout are unlimited, 100 students added without a purchase are included, and each one after that costs $0.50 a month. Video storage beyond 1,000 GB costs $15 a month per TB. Older schools switch to this policy at their first renewal on or after April 30, 2027.
- Third quarter of 2026: Teachable moved existing schools from teachable:pay to Teachable Payments in waves. The default Standard bundle adds 0.7% to recurring charges and 0.5% to sales where tax is assessed, while the Global bundle adds 2.8% to every sale instead. Gifting, the student referral program and post-purchase upsells were removed.
How much these changes cost you depends on your school. Subscription-heavy schools on the Standard bundle pay the extra 0.7% on every renewal, schools with many free or imported students face usage fees, and schools built around Community are running on a feature Teachable has stopped developing.
What moves from Teachable to Whop
Students and your product list move through export files and the wizard. Course content and paying subscriptions don't move on their own.
Students come from two CSV exports
The users export is the member list. In Teachable, open Users, choose Students (or All), apply any filters, then click Export CSV. Teachable emails the file to the school owner, and its help center says to download it within 24 minutes or the link expires. The file has 14 fields, including name, email, join date, course count, tags and billing address.
The transactions export is your purchase history. Find it under Sales, then Transactions, then Export CSV, and use it to see who bought what and when each subscriber last paid.
Upload the users file to the free Teachable to Whop migration as is, or clean it first with the member CSV converter. Whop's API can't add members to a product directly, so the wizard creates a hidden "Existing members" option on Whop. One-time buyers, including lifetime-access students, get a free claim link. Subscribers get a matching plan with a free trial that ends on their next Teachable renewal.
Products and prices are confirmed in the wizard
You confirm each course, membership, bundle and price in the wizard, and we create the matching Whop products and plans through Whop's official API. If you sell coaching or downloads, set those up by hand in Whop's Calendar Bookings and Files apps.
Courses are rebuilt from your outline
Teachable has no bulk course export. Its help center has you download videos, PDFs, audio and images one block at a time from the three-dot menu on each lesson block, save images inside text blocks by opening them in a new tab, and copy lesson text by hand.
Paste each course outline into the wizard and we create the Whop course with chapters, lessons, lesson text and YouTube or Loom embeds. Video files aren't transferred automatically, so upload them in Whop or embed them.
Paying subscribers re-subscribe
Teachable Payments runs on a Stripe Express account connected to your school, and Teachable documents no way to export saved cards or active subscriptions. Schools on a custom payment gateway connect their own Stripe, but Teachable's comparison table says their student subscriptions are powered by Teachable's in-house system. Either way, Whop's Stripe migration has nothing to move, so subscribers join Whop again with a trial that lines up their first charge.
There's no community to move either. Teachable's Community is in maintenance mode, so if you want one on Whop, add the Chat or Forums app to your product.
How the switch works, step by step
Eight steps, in this order, get your students onto Whop without losing access or paying twice.
- Keep your Teachable plan active until the end. Cancelling takes the school offline and limits your admin access, so do every export first.
- Export your students from Users with Export CSV, and download the file within 24 minutes of the email arriving.
- Export transactions from Sales, then Transactions. For each subscriber, their next renewal is the last charge date plus their billing interval.
- Download your course files block by block and copy each lesson's text.
- Open the migration wizard, connect Whop with Sign in with Whop, upload the users file, confirm your products and prices, and paste your course outlines.
- Upload videos and attach PDFs in Whop Courses, then rebuild any quizzes.
- Send one-time buyers their claim link and subscribers their trial-plan link, using our announcement email templates. As each subscriber joins Whop, cancel their Teachable subscription from Sales.
- Wind down Teachable: cancel any student subscriptions that are left, keep a balance for late refunds, then cancel your plan.
Our guide to moving paid subscriptions to Whop explains the trial-alignment method in more detail.
Keep your Teachable API key to yourself
You don't need a Teachable API key to move to Whop, and you shouldn't give one to anyone. Section 9.2 of Teachable's Terms of Use, updated April 20, 2026, says "You may not share your API Key with any third party."
Move to Whop works only from the CSV files you export from Teachable, and it never asks for your Teachable API key or password. If a migration service, freelancer or tool asks for either, say no. If you've already handed a key over, revoke it in your school settings.
How to keep students and avoid double billing
Line up each subscriber's first Whop charge with their next Teachable renewal, then cancel the Teachable subscription once they've joined. That keeps every student paying once per period.
Line up the dates
Take each subscriber's last charge date from the transactions export and add their billing interval. A monthly subscriber last charged on September 20 renews on October 20, so their Whop plan's free trial should end on October 20. The wizard sets up the matching trial plan for you. When the student joins Whop, cancel their Teachable subscription from Sales so it doesn't renew.
Payment plans and lifetime access
Students partway through a Teachable payment plan are the tricky group. Let them finish paying on Teachable before you cancel your plan, or decide to waive what's left. Cancelling early doesn't end billing cleanly, because Teachable says student subscriptions may continue for up to 30 days after your plan ends while the school itself goes offline.
Lifetime-access buyers get a free claim link. Whatever they bought on Teachable, give them the same access on Whop.
Expect some drop-off
Not every student will follow you. One creator on r/elearning wrote in June 2025 that only about 400 of their 9,000+ students made the move to a new platform. Send a clear first email, a reminder before Teachable access ends, and a trial that covers the time students already paid for.
An email you can adapt
Subject: [School name] is moving to Whop on [date]
Hi [first name], on [date] we're moving our courses from Teachable to Whop. You keep everything you've bought.
If you bought a course, claim free access here with the same email if you can: [claim link].
If you're on a monthly or annual plan, join here: [trial link]. You won't be charged on Whop until [renewal date], and we'll cancel your Teachable subscription once you're in, so you're never billed twice.
Our Teachable school stays open until [date].
Teachable vs Whop fees at your revenue
On subscription revenue, Whop costs less than every Teachable plan at the three levels we checked. The gap is widest on Starter because of its 7.5% transaction fee.
Prices as of October 2026. Sources at the end of this page.
| Monthly revenue | Charges at $50 | Teachable Starter ($39/mo) | Teachable Builder ($89/mo) | Teachable Growth ($189/mo) | Whop ($0/mo) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $1,000 | 20 | $156 | $131 | $231 | $38 |
| $10,000 | 200 | $1,209 | $509 | $609 | $380 |
| $50,000 | 1,000 | $5,889 | $2,189 | $2,289 | $1,900 |
How we calculated it: monthly cost = plan price + (revenue × percentage fees) + (number of charges × $0.30). On Teachable Payments, a US school pays 2.9% + $0.30 per domestic card charge, and the default Standard bundle adds 0.7% on recurring charges (Teachable's fee article). That makes a Builder or Growth renewal 3.6% + $0.30, and Starter adds its 7.5% for 11.1% + $0.30. Whop charges 2.7% + $0.30 plus 0.5% billing. We assumed US cards, $50 monthly memberships and Teachable billed month to month. Annual billing lowers Teachable's plans to $29, $69 or $139.
Because Whop's 3.2% is below Builder's 3.6% and there's no plan fee, Whop stays cheaper at any revenue level under these assumptions. If you sell one-time courses instead, the gap narrows. Both sides drop their recurring fee, so a $200 course costs $5.70 in fees on Whop against $6.10 on Builder or Growth, and most of your saving is the plan price.
Left out on both sides: Teachable's 0.5% on sales where tax is assessed (it pays for Teachable collecting and remitting tax; Whop's tax service costs 2% when you turn it on), Teachable's usage fees, international cards (4.4% + $0.30 on a US Teachable school; Whop adds 1.5% plus 1% for currency conversion), Whop's $0.07 Radar fee per transaction, $15 per dispute on both, and payout fees. Run your own numbers in the Teachable vs Whop fee calculator, or see how Whop's fees work.
What you'll rebuild by hand
The course library is the main manual job, followed by your marketing setup. List every item before you set a moving date.
- Course videos and files. Upload your originals in Whop, or embed lessons that already live on YouTube or Loom.
- Lesson text and quizzes. Copy text into each Whop lesson and rebuild quizzes, which Whop Courses supports along with progress tracking.
- Drip schedules and certificates. Whop's course tools support lessons that open a set number of days after a student starts, and completion certificates.
- Coupons. Recreate them as Whop promo codes.
- Sales pages and your custom domain. Rebuild the copy on your Whop product page or site, then point your domain at it.
- Email marketing. Teachable's built-in email (Builder and up) doesn't transfer. Export your subscriber list and rebuild your newsletters and sequences after the move.
- Affiliates. Recreate them in Whop's affiliate program, which adds a 1.25% processing fee on affiliate-referred sales.
- Bundles. Build one Whop product that includes several courses.
Should you switch from Teachable to Whop?
Switch if you're paying for recurring billing, Starter's 7.5% fee or the new usage fees. Stay if Teachable's tax handling or course tooling carries your business.
Switching makes sense if:
- Most revenue is memberships or subscriptions. Whop costs less than every Teachable plan in the table above.
- You're on Starter and paying 7.5% on every sale.
- Many students joined without buying, through free courses or imports, and usage fees are starting to add up.
- You want an active community next to your courses, since Teachable has stopped developing its own.
Staying makes sense if:
- You count on Teachable Payments to calculate, collect and remit sales tax and VAT across 45+ markets. Whop's tax service collects and remits in the US, UK and EU for 2% of each sale.
- Your courses depend on Teachable's course tooling, such as compliance settings or offline viewing in its student apps.
- Your school was created before September 3, 2026 and your bill hasn't changed yet. The new usage policy doesn't reach older schools until their first renewal on or after April 30, 2027.
- You sell mostly one-time courses on Builder or Growth, where Whop saves you mainly the plan price, and a full rebuild may not be worth it for a small catalog.
Whop has limits to plan around too. Your Teachable lessons have to be rebuilt by hand, and new accounts can face payout reserves and a $2,500 cap per checkout until Whop approves higher amounts. Every student also needs a Whop account to claim access. If Whop isn't the fit, our roundup of Teachable alternatives compares six other options.
After the move: launch checklist
Check each of these before you tell students the move is done.
- Buy your own product with a real card, then open a claim link in a private browser window.
- Watch a lesson on your phone to check video playback and embeds.
- Compare each Whop subscriber's trial end date with your transactions export.
- Cancel any Teachable student subscriptions that are still active, since Teachable says they can keep charging for up to 30 days after your plan ends.
- Leave money in your Teachable Payments balance for late refunds and chargebacks. Teachable debits your connected bank account when the balance runs short.
- Finish Whop's payout setup and identity verification.
- Point your custom domain, link in bio and email footers at Whop.

Frequently asked questions
Can I export my courses from Teachable?
Not as a package. Teachable's help center says there's no bulk course export, so you download videos, PDFs, audio and images one block at a time from each lesson's three-dot menu and copy lesson text by hand. Paste your course outline into the migration tool and it builds the matching chapters and lessons in Whop Courses, ready for your files.
Will my Teachable subscribers be charged twice?
Not if you follow the order. Each subscriber joins Whop on a plan whose free trial ends on their next Teachable renewal, then you cancel their Teachable subscription from Sales. Don't count on cancelling your Teachable plan to stop student billing, because Teachable says student subscriptions may continue for up to 30 days after your plan ends.
Why can't Whop Migrations move my Teachable subscriptions?
Whop Migrations copies subscriptions from a Stripe account you control. Teachable Payments runs on a Stripe Express account connected to your school, and Teachable documents no way to export saved cards or active subscriptions. Schools on a custom payment gateway don't fare better: Teachable's own comparison says their student subscriptions run on Teachable's in-house system.
Is it safe to give my Teachable API key to a migration tool?
No. Section 9.2 of Teachable's Terms of Use, updated April 20, 2026, says you may not share your API key with any third party. Move to Whop doesn't ask for it: you upload the CSV files you export from Teachable and connect Whop with Sign in with Whop. If you've already handed a key to someone, revoke it in your school settings.
What happens to my students when I cancel Teachable?
Your school goes offline and students lose access to the content hosted there, according to Teachable's help center (June 2026). Teachable no longer offers a free plan, so the school can't stay up for free, and your admin access becomes limited. Finish your exports, file downloads and student invitations before you cancel.
How long does Teachable's student export link last?
About 24 minutes. Teachable emails the Users CSV to the school owner, and its help center says to download it within 24 minutes or the file expires with an XML error. If that happens, run the export again. The file has 14 fields, including name, email, join date, course count, tags and address.
Can I bring my Teachable community to Whop?
There's usually nothing to bring. Teachable put its Community feature in maintenance mode on August 10, 2026: existing communities keep running, but Teachable isn't adding features or fixing reported bugs, and new schools can't create one. On Whop you start fresh by adding the Chat or Forums app to the product your students claim.
